ACCREDITATION OF REFERENCE MATERIAL PRODUCERS
AWARENESS PROGRAM – ISO 17034
Sri Lanka Accreditation Board has successfully conducted the 2 days Awareness Training program on Accreditation of Reference Material Producers as per ISO 17034 with participation of around 50 trainees from private and public sector organizations. The participants are mainly from Testing, Medical and Calibration fields.
This programme initiated for creating awareness of requirements among interested parties, identifying needed improvements of potential RMPs and encouraging to start local manufacturing of reference materials. During the program participants were highly engaged with the RMP requirements.
At present, Sri Lankan laboratories, inspection bodies and proficiency testing providers are purchasing reference materials from foreign manufacturers at a higher cost. Imported reference materials are used for many purposes such as method validation/verification, internal quality control activities, calibration of instruments and also as proficiency testing items. Promotion of reference material manufacturing relevant to local products by local manufacturers (laboratories, research institutions, universities, proficiency testing providers) is a timely requirement as there are limitations and issues in relation to importing materials from other countries.
Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) plans to expand its services to Accreditation Reference Materials Producers (RMP) under ISO 17034.
