Overview
Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB)
SLAB is the National Accreditation Authority of Sri Lanka established under the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment Act. No. 32 of 2005. The Board functions under the purview of the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development and is governed by a Council of thirteen members.
What We
Accredit
Accreditation is a formal demonstration of competence to carry out specific conformity assessment tasks against internationally recognised standards, building global trade confidence.
The Accreditation
Process
SLAB's accreditation process is structured, transparent, and aligned with international best practices. Follow these steps to apply for accreditation and join our network of recognised conformity assessment bodies.
Recognised
Globally
SLAB is a signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA), and the newly unified Global ACI MRA — the single international authority for accreditation formed by the integration of ILAC and IAF, effective January 2026. This ensures that test reports and certificates issued by SLAB-accredited bodies are accepted worldwide.
What Are the Benefits
of Being Accredited?
Accreditation by SLAB provides organisations with a formal recognition of their competence, opening doors to international trade and building stakeholder confidence.
Building Trust
In the global trade, customers are becoming more demanding and seeking assurances on the products and services you provide them. By getting accreditation, your customers will have the confidence in the quality of products and services that you provide. This will enable you to build trust between you and your customer.
International Recognition
Through the various mutual recognition arrangements between accreditation bodies, overseas markets will accept your company more readily if they know you have been certified by a SLAB accredited certification body or accept your test results or inspections if you are an accredited laboratory or inspection body.
Minimizes Risk
Accredited organizations reduce the risk of providing unreliable test results, services and products, and are able to meet the customers' expectations.
Reduce Costs
Although accreditation comes at a cost, the cost savings resulting from being accredited will outweigh the cost of accreditation. Cost savings may result from improved productivity, reduced downtime, reduced re-testing, etc.
Demonstrate Credibility
No organization will want to spend money on getting a report or certificate that has not been accredited by a competent body. A SLAB accredited organization is able to demonstrate competence hence credibility.
